Monkey see, Monkey do

I finally finished the monkey quilt that I started for my granddaughter months ago. Poor little girl is 4 months old and just getting her baby quilt! She came to visit me last week and that prodded me to finish it up so they could take it home.  This quilt was made from a pattern called “Mortimer Monkey”.

And here is the special little girl I made the quilt for!

Spicey Spoils!

So the trip to Lancaster, PA was all about shopping, right?  Oh yeah, there was an AQS Quilt show thrown in also!

I love shopping for batiks in that area of the country.  They are at least 30% cheaper than they are at home.  Here is a peak at my batik purchases:

I got some great Christmas prints for a certain Christmas in July gift that I need to get busy on!

I got some flannels for future baby gifts.

I can never seem to have enough black fabric on hand so I stocked up!

I even got some fun fabrics for some future fun projects.

And what fabric shopping trip would be complete without spice purchases?

That’s right!  Some of the shops we like to go to also cater to the Amish.  One shop in particular is part fabric store, part bulk food store.  The spices are surprisingly cheap!  I got some sugars to decorate cakes and cupcakes, some dried cranberries, dried oregano, bay leaves and taco seasoning!  The oregano and sugars caused a little stir going through the TSA check at the airport!  They had to pull them out of my backpack and check them out!

Pennsylvania Pilgrimage

Each year I fly to Baltimore to meet up with my sister.  We head to Lancaster, PA to attend the AQS Quilt Show.  Then we begin the annual fabric shopping spree in Amish Quilt shops throughout Lancaster County.

We stayed at Beiler’s Bed & Breakfast and really enjoyed our time there.

We spent two days driving through the county to shop.  Here are some pictures of what we saw:

Sylvia Petersheim's shop

Inside Zook's

We also saw a lot of Amish in their horse and buggies.

Some of the shops cater to the Amish also.

Amish straw hats

Amish Bonnets

Next post I’ll show you some of the things I bought!

Making old new again

I just finished quilting an antique quilt.  The top was made by the grandmother of a friend.  I quilted and bound it.  I think it turned out quite nice!

We are leaving in a couple days to go on a cruise to Key West and the Bahamas.  I can’t wait!

Retreating!

Just got back from a fun 3 day quilt retreat with three friends. Here is some of what I worked on:

First was the applique center for a quilt for my newest granddaughter:

Then I pieced a wallhanging for my daughter-in-law and grandkids (different family!):

I need to hurry up and get this one quilted so they can hang it for the month of February!

Then I worked on Bonnie Hunter’s latest mystery quilt, Orca Bay.  I am way behind on finishing this mystery!  Here is a picture of one of the piles of pieces for this quilt!

Big mistake!

Well, I was working on changing the look of my blog and updating some things.  Uh Oh.  I somehow lost the last few posts that I submitted.  So, to try to make up for that, I’ll add the pictures again here.

I finished a memorial quilt before Christmas:

I finished a baby snuggly quilt for a coworker:

I finished crocheting a rug for my kitchen:

And I finally finished a quilt that I started for my son nearly 2 years ago.

OK.  I promise to leave the blog as is and not click on things when I don’t understand what will happen!

Too long, again!

Well, once again it has been too long between posts.

We just returned from a nice week in central Tennessee.  We spent the week with my mom, my siblings and their spouses, celebrating my mom’s 80th birthday.  We had such a good time that we are planning another trip somewhere — maybe overseas — in a couple years.

My sister and I did manage to visit a few quilt and fabric stores while there!

Before I left I worked hard to finish three memorial quilts for a customer.  They are made from the pants and shirts of a gentleman.

His wife is giving these quilts to his mother and brother.  I previously made a quilt for her from his clothing also.

Tunics anyone?

I have been on a kick making the Schoolhouse Tunic.  It is easy to make and I like the how comfortable it is and the way it looks.  Here are the two I have made for myself.

We are headed out of town tomorrow to Laughlin, NV and I plan to wear the red and black one on the plane!

Latest Memorial Quilt

I have been working on a Memorial Quilt for a client using a man’s shirts and pants.  Here is a sneak peak at how it is turning out! (I still have to sew all the blocks together).
